Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP)
TCC is dedicated to providing students with a high quality education in an supportive environment. The purpose of the Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP) is to communicate the College's minimum expectations of academic progress.
TCC's Standards of Academic Progress are as follows:
- Students with 1-14 credit hours: 1.5 GPA or higher
- Students with15-29 credit hours: 1.8 GPA or higher
- Students with 30 or more credit hours: 2.0 GPA or higher
*Students receiving financial aid must also maintain a 67% completion rate of all courses attempted. The Office of Financial Aid has a separate appeal process for students who fall below the Standards of Academic Progress and completion requirements.
Failure to meet these standards will result in one of the following academic infractions:
Academic Warning:
Your first semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Warning:
- You will be limited to no more than 13 credit hours
- You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center
- You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
Academic Probation:
Your second semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Probation:
- You will be limited to no more than 8 credit hours
- You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center
- You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
- “Probation” will be posted to your permanent transcript
Academic Suspension:
Your third semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Suspension:
- Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for one full semester (e.g., Fall, Spring, or Summer)
- After completing the suspension, students must complete and submit the online form of the Academic Success Plan before the term for which they want to enroll
- The Online Academic Success Plan must be submitted via the MyTCC app.
- You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
- You will be limited to no more than 9 credit hours upon return until the cumulative GPA is raised to 2.0
- You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
- “Suspension” will be posted to your permanent transcript
Academic Dismissal:
Your fourth semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Dismissal:
- Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for a minimum of one calendar year (12 months)
- After completing the dismissal period, students must complete and submit the online form of the Academic Success Plan before the term for which you want to return to TCC
- You are required to apply for re-admission to TCC.
- You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
- You will be limited to no more than 9 credit hours upon return until your cumulative GPA is raised to 2.0
- You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
- “Dismissal” will be posted to your permanent transcript
How to Submit an Academic Suspension or Dismissal Success Plan
- Sign in to MyTCC
- Join and enter the Advising Center group
- Click on Resources in the Advising Center group
- Click on folder for "Forms"
- Click on "Advising Forms"
- Click on "Academic Success Action Plan"
- Complete and submit
