Where is My Canvas Course?

Click here for instructions on How to access your Canvas Course

Having trouble locating your course in Canvas? Here are some of the most common reasons, and how to resolve them.

1. Course is Unpublished

In order to allow students to access the course materials, the instructor must first Publish the course in Canvas. Students can verify the course status by clicking the Courses icon in the left navigation menu. From the courses menu, click the “All Courses” link. If the course has not yet been published, the unpublished status icon will display to the right of the course name. Students should contact their instructor for more information about the course status.

2. Verify Course Start Date

Students will be enrolled into their course in Canvas on the first day of classes for that sessions. For Express Session courses, enrollment will take place on the first day of classes for that session. Students can verify their course’s start date by checking their course schedule, or by looking up to the course in Workday.

3. Course is Hidden From the Dashboard

While in the favorites view, newly added courses may not be automatically displayed on student’s Dashboard. To resolve, students can choose one of the following methods:

  • To retain the favorites view: Click the Courses icon, location in the far left navigation menu. From the courses menu, click the “All Courses” link. Any courses listed with a gold star will be displayed on the Dashboard. If the star is grey, it will be hidden from view. Click the grey star next to the missing course so that it becomes a gold satar. The course will now be displayed on the courses menu, as well as the Dashboard view.
  • To return to the default view: Click the Courses icon, located in the far left navigation menu. From the courses menu, click the “All Courses” link. Next to each course listed, click each god star to revert it back to the grey star. Once all gold stars have been removed, the courses menu and Dashboard will now display in the default view, which means all courses will be displayed.
